An Update from the World Maestro, Colin O’Donohoe.
The Pangean Orchestra and the World Maestro’s Musical Process.

On this episode of the dHarmic Evolution podcast, we welcome back the World Maestro, Colin O’Donohoe. Colin was on episode 6 of the podcast and hopefully, you will enjoy hearing about what he has been up to for the past 3+ years since that appearance.

One of Colin’s big projects is the Pangean Orchestra, which is based in Phoenix where Colin lives in the U.S. but also has a branch in Istanbul, where he spends several months out of the year as well. The orchestra’s goal is to travel around the world sharing the different sounds and styles of music in a way that broadens all listeners’ perspectives of the world and culture, bringing everyone together through the common language and experience of music. Colin is a true student of the world’s music, always seeking to respectfully share the traditions of each culture represented. He partners up with likeminded musicians all over the world to experiment with new sounds and hopefully make something that connects with the audience.

Key Quotes:

“The idea of the Pangean Orchestra is to combine not only the instruments but also the ideas that the instruments’ traditions have with them.”

“The more time you spend in that music, the more you begin to see those colors.”

“Beauty in one culture is not beauty in another.”

Songs:

“Mahmoudi”

“Phoenix”

“The Closing”

DE231 To Woodstock Or Not To Woodstock?

To Woodstock Or Not To Woodstock? - dHarmic Evolution Podcast

“It was one problem after another”

How Woodstock 50 fell apart!

Woodstock 50 had nearly every resource a festival could ask for the storied brand name, massive financial backing and industry goodwill.

Where did it all go wrong?

James talks about the current passing of the 50 year anniversary, and how it did not happen, then does a replay of his spin on the milestone back in January, and shares his original song, “Peace and Love”.

Max Yasgur allowed his dairy farm to play host to 400,000 music fans at The Iconic Woodstock Music and Art Fair held at Bethel NY August 15, 1969.

Ha! It was never in Woodstock!

What was supposed to be 50,000 people attending, turned into more than 400,000!

My response to Woodstock many years later is a song called Peace and Love that reflected the times, the social temperament, the Vietnam war, the draft, the dead, and the courage of our young people that had risen peacefully to say “no more”, and, “hell no, we won’t go”!

Special thank you to Clara Scott for her article on Joni Mitchell. Clara is a writer for the Michigan Daily.

Joni Mitchell’s masterpiece, “Woodstock” and Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young performed it at the Concert.

Laura Cheadle, my favorite Hippie, inspired this broadcast, please check out her Episode DE176, find out why the “hippie vibe” fits her so well!

Peace and Love were written by James Kevin O’Connor in 2011.

Had a pretty good time, back in 1969, I was a little too young for Woodstock so I visit often now tye-dye shirts, and Crimson cows, and Love, Hey just two words changed everyone, turned a lot of heads down in Washington, you can’t fight free will with a bigger gun, hey what’s all this crap about Peace and Love, don’t you know I’m in the middle of re-election.

Chorus:

Yeah, Peace and Love, Hey it’s easy Man, you don’t need to have a plan.

It’s in the holy bible and koran, hey far out man, I like living with a Cruzan tan, a little taste of living off the land, it’s such an easy thing to understand when East meets West there will be Peace and Love.

I remember waking up in a daze, staring through a purple haze, we’ de all gather round to watch the evening news, praying that someone had the brains to blow out the fuse. That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind, flower power hell no we won’t go, while the jungle bleeds red, with teenage dead, what the hell we doing playing Giant steps on the Moon.

Bridge:

It’s amazing how we seem to find, a way to tiptoe around the landmines, I stretch my hand out connect to you, hey brother to brother, just twin reflections, of one another, could we take a chance and say, could we take a chance and say Namaste?

hey Namaste~

Best from Amy:

“We’re put on this Earth to do you know stuff that you know is going to change the world.”

“You know a lot of the artists they work you know they work full-time part-time right? So I’m doing both. I’ve got the three jobs, I’ve got a singing career. I’m Hannah Montana!”

“I’m always in the moment…  I’ll be at work, and something will come to me, and I’ll grab out my notebook on my phone and just start typing it in.”

“Canadian Redneck” Amy Rose is as down to Earth as an artist can be, and we’re lucky to have her back on the dHarmic Evolution! She tells us about how her work/life balance; it’s not easy juggling being an EMT, a Mom, and a country singer at the same time – but this real-life Hannah Montana pulls it off with stellar songs like Sunday Morning After and One Of These Days.

About Amy:

Amy grew up on her parent’s classic country music, so it’s no surprise she wants to take everything song she hears and turn it into a country jam. She recently worked with producers Marty Beecroft and Glenn Coulson of VIP, and released her first international release to radio single!

Featured Songs:

– Sunday Morning After
– Sunshine
– Party Like A Redneck
– One Of These Days

Today on the dHarmic Evolution podcast we are diving into a variety of great topics. I will be having a conversation with the man who was my first real mentor on the guitar. We’ll chat about his journey and life experience as well as his beautiful, musical talent.

In this episode, I am speaking with George Barker. George has influenced me in so many ways. I would describe him as a light in the wilderness. He is a brilliant musician, composer, author, and has an amazing sense of humor. For many years he performed up until he became paralyzed in 2003. He unfortunately no longer performs due to a rare disorder called transverse myelitis. This is a disorder where the immune system attacks the spinal cord. Doctors don’t know the cause of the disorder at this time. It’s extremely rare, as only one to four in one million people contract this rare disease.

George has continued to live his life and pursue his passions despite the disorder. He currently lives in Kentucky with his wife and two dogs. His dad was actually born in Kentucky and he always saw himself moving to Kentucky. His entire family had a love and talent for music. His dad was a guitarist who was a pro for a while before World War II and his mom was also involved in music. Music ran in his blood.

George went on to study at Berkley where he got really deep into theory and harmony. He focused mostly on harmony and guitar performance. He actually dropped out to join a band, which was encouraged at Berkley because you could always come back. Today George just really loves to play the guitar and help people. He continues to write when he can.

In this episode:

– George’s transition to Kentucky
– Music clips from George
– Amp set up and gear
– Who was on the record and time frame of the record
– The Berkley story
– Gear and recording at Mix-o-Lydian recording studio with Don Sternecker
– George’s family and upbringing
– What connected George to jazz fusion
– Rendition of Amazing Grace
– George’s diagnosis
– Maintaining a positive attitude in light of hardship
– George’s take on what’s going on in the world musically
– At the wire
– The experience of playing with another accomplished guitarist
– Big goals and plans upcoming
