DE249 Cali Rivlin, Highlight Reel, Israel, London, what a beautiful musical combination!

Cali Rivlin, Highlight Reel, Israel, London, what a beautiful musical combination! - dHarmic Evolution Podcast

I hope you all had a wonderful and most blessed Christmas experience! Wrapping up our highlight reel this month is Cali Rivlin. A skilled, talented and hardworking singer, I promise you’re all going to be fans of Cali once you’re done listening to the interview.

Cali is a London based Israeli singer and pianist. She began her classical training at the Tel Aviv Music conservatory whilst in Israel at a tender age of only 8 years. She has had a passion and love for music since she was a toddler and always felt an attraction towards the art for as long as she can remember.  Her journey towards her pianist career was a random act of fate. When she was 14, Cali’s friend moved to an apartment next door, and her piano wouldn’t fit through the doorway. Just for the general love of piano Cali always had, she decided to buy the piano from her friend. And thus, she began a lifetime love for the piano and its tunes (Cali still uses the piano to this day, and her latest album cover is a shot with Cali sitting on the piano!)

[25:32] Cali’s opinion on T.V Reality Shows.

Despite being approached several times, and by numerous scouts to feature in different T.V Reality shows, such as The Voice (London), The Voice (Israel), American Idol and so many others. Cali has always said no approaches.

Cali feels that such shows only fulfill the purpose of tearing down the artistic “Olympus of inspiration” that music provides. And when this is done, it becomes like a modern-day gladiator arena where artists fight each other for the sake of winning, and, instead of being inspired by the music, everyone becomes a judge.

‘‘I wanted to achieve something that’s impossible, and my song at the time (Flying Through Water) sounded impossible to produce. And that’s what you set out to do in life, in art, and in everything. You set out to inspire others by achieving the impossible.             – “Cali Rivlin”

DE248 Nancy Harms in New York, Copenhagen, Paris….. Jazz at it’s finest!

Nancy Harms in New York, Copenhagen, Paris….. Jazz at it’s finest! - dHarmic Evolution Podcast

Hello ladies and gentlemen, hope your holidays are wonderful.  Today’s Highlight Reel continues featuring Nancy Harms’ melodious and heavenly jazz vocals.

Nancy Harms is a New York-based internationally known jazz singer. Born and raised in a small Minnesota town, Nancy’s journey to becoming the woman and artist she is today was filled with a lot of trials, setbacks, and tribulations. Her first blow came when she applied for a choral music scholarship for college, but she wasn’t even granted an audition. The best singer in her town, and not even an audition.

She completed her Music Education degree through her own means and began teaching music in small Minnesota based schools. While working as a teacher, she’d experience panic attacks and suffer from severe anxiety. This was deemed to be the lowest and most depressing moment of Nancy’s life. The message from her anxiety was loud and clear. This line of work was not meant for her.

Through the help of some incredible friends, Nancy was able to move to Minneapolis in search of her true and authentic self. She started singing at coffee shops alongside her college buddies, and slowly snowballed her way into bigger gigs in clubs and restaurants. With every performance and a standing ovation, she began to slowly come to the realization that becoming a Jazz player was her true calling and purpose in life.

A lot of Nancy’s songs are about her friends, through whom she derives everyday inspiration and learned so much about life.

Today, she travels the world, gracing different audiences with her sweet, angelic and glorious vocals. But for the next one hour, you get to listen to her soothing, warm chocolate voice, exclusively on the dHarmic evolution podcast.

“where I perform doesn’t really matter. It really comes down to the audience with me”

 -Nancy Harms

Biography:

MTV Europe Music Awards Nominee (Best Worldwide Act) & Vh1 Top 10 artist Oliver Sean’s music can best be described as ‘Feel Good Acoustic Rock with Soul’. The Singer/Songwriter thrived in the Goa, Dubai and the UK cultures as they acted as the backdrop to his youth, and the inspiration for his music.

His discography with W.O.A. Entertainment began in 1999 with his single ‘There She Is Again’. Oliver Sean’s media clippings have formed a career of their own.

Since his career was launched in his teens, Oliver’s press clippings exceed several hundred features, snippets, and reviews in significant print and broadcast mediums. His brand of music is known for its pop influence with contemporary undertones. His debut album was nominated for ‘International Album of the Year’ by AVMax in 2003/04 along with albums by John Mayer, Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue and Third Eye Blind.

Oliver Sean’s eclectic global music style is the trademark for his brand and is as exotic as his Portuguese Goan Lineage. A self-taught musician, Oliver plays guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums. However, it is his distinctive percussive guitar and powerfully seductive voice, which is his footprint on the music industry. His track record of being a hit songwriter is just one of his many assets defining him as a pillar in the music community. Oliver Sean is a member of the Recording Academy and a Voting Member for the prestigious Grammy Awards.

As a Record Producer and Filmmaker, Oliver Sean has composed music for the French Government (Massif Region Tourism Campaign) & Goa Government (Republic Day Parade). He has also composed the soundtrack as a music director for a Bollywood Feature Film and the title track for a Regional Goan Feature Film. “I think every artist should be in a cover band for a while, to help you hone in on your skills, it really worked for me”
– Oliver Sean

Welcome back to the dHarmic evolution podcast. This month, we’ll be having a re-run of some of the top podcasts that I feel would be an injustice to air once. Our first re-run is my interview with music artist, Oliver Sean is a London based Portuguese singer/songwriter from Goa, India.

He performs a unique genre of music which is known for its pop influence with contemporary undertones. Sean has recently featured as MTV Europe Music Awards Nominee (Best Worldwide Act) & VH1 Top 10.

Growing up, Sean had different music and artists that influenced him, from blues, rock music, 80s pop to punk and pop bands. His passion and practice of music began at an early age in Goa, but it wasn’t until when he moved to London that he get his first break.
At only 19 years of age, Sean packed his bag and guitar, got a plane ticket to London and started doing different gigs in pubs and clubs. He would eventually land a Showcasetv gig on Skytv UK which later on snowballed his way into more affluent performances, such as one with MTV as a VH1.

His love for business, marketing, and management have seen Sean become a self-producing artist and overseeing the producing of several music videos, films, and soundtracks. Sean also hosts his own show The WOAFM99 Radio Show.

Sean’s company works closely with Viacom, VH1, MTV and independent artists. Because Sean’s Record label organizes a lot of major tours, a lot of the independent artists love to tag along and make music videos. At first, Sean only used to be in front of the camera, you know, just giving his tips and ideas, his passion and dedication for it grew and before he knew it, he was a full-time producer for the music videos. This role, later on, grew to direct music videos as well, and later on cinematography.
