400. Megan Ann Rasmussen, “Blazes The Artistic Trail With Vision And Passion” Theater Never Had It So Good!

For 20+ years, Megan Ann Rasmussen has served as an Award-Winning Producer, Director, and Educator, impacting multigenerational audiences.

As President of MAR Productions, she is committed to creating theatre that uplifts and strengthens each of us, building engaged communities.

As a Producer she brought FREE PLAY: Open Source Scripts Towards an Antiracist Tomorrow to The TheaterMakers Studio’s Reading Series. Additionally, Megan Ann is developing Heaven Come Home by award-winning TheaterMakers Studio Member Justin Payne, features the moving “One More Day,” a musical number where families and their deceased loved ones yearn for one more day to be together.  Composer and lyricist Justin Payne says of Megan Ann’s contributions to the production, “To have Megan Ann produce this show has been monumental!”

Megan Ann is Co-Producer of Joy: The Musical, a new Broadway show with Tony award-winning producer, Ken Davenport. She is also involved with A Beautiful Noise; The Neil Diamond Musical, The Griswold’s Broadway VacationKinky Boots (Off Broadway), and is Lead Producer for Spells of the Sea (Regional.)

Her passion for producing began at an early age as she sat glued to the television watching Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music. She was enthralled with the singing, choreography and the magic of what music and theater could be. As the bossy oldest child of 8, she took charge and produced elaborate set designs with cardboard boxes and index cards, and costumes she could find in the cast-off dress-ups. The seeds of a panache for producing were planted.

Colleagues consider her “… in a class of her own,” and “a true find.” They’ve also said that “…whatever she does, she does it with heart and moxy,” as she “…blazes the artistic trail.”

Quote #1

James I really believe that theater is best enjoyed with a young person on one side and a grandparent on the other Yeah, this intergenerational experience is something that as families, we don’t get enough of it, when you talk about the show before we go to the show, the anticipation of what it’s going to be like, and then sometimes I’m talking in the show, like, did you see that?

Quote #2

We’ve had some great strategic partners. Um, I have a great co producer and Dr. Megan Alritz from the University of Texas at Austin. She helped orchestrate, there’s no one path James, for how to get a show to Broadway, right? But, each path I think is interesting and pertinent or key to this project.

So we did a development workshop called at Pegasus Play Lab, the University of Central Florida. Cool, right? UCF. Great people there. Julia, and we got it on its feet. And then, like, maybe like song writing, I don’t know. I’d love to hear your experience. But after we got it on its feet, we did, we went back to do the rewrites.

Quote #3

I love the people. I love the work, but I think we all owe it to our psyche and our creativity. To make sure we have time to refill that. Yeah. I actually just did a podcast on this about…….I call it the critical in between, which is this time between big developmental steps. The time where you have to check in and say, how’s the show?

How are my fellow humans? But also how am I, and you can’t pull from a well that’s not full. So there’s a couple of things that I do. I. Um, I like to read, I’m a big, um, personal improvement junkie, um, I, there’s a lots of folks that I like to listen to that fill my head, right? Let’s, maybe if we went through the chakras, right, like it fills my head, right?

399. David Doerrier, Trains The Trainer, And Teaches How To Leverage Knowledge!

David D. Doerrier is a dynamic professional speaker, trainer, and coach with over 25 years of experience in the field of training and development, leadership and communication. With a passion for helping individuals and organizations achieve their full potential, David brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his presentations.

David’s engaging style and unique ability to connect with his audience have made him a sought-after speaker at industry conferences, corporate events, and educational institutions across the country. He is known for his ability to simplify complex concepts and deliver actionable insights that empower individuals to take their communication skills to the next level.

Quote #1

Where in many cases it makes them a worse trainer or speaker because they just give all of this data and overwhelm their audience. So, to answer your question, I would be working with trainers, working with people that have complex information. That need to be able to, disseminate that or to share that with an audience so they can understand it.

Quote#2

When I was a kid growing up on Long Island, New York,  I met folks that I graduated high school with. And many of them said, I didn’t even know you could talk because I was just a shy kid. For me, if I was able to find a cave and live in that cave for the rest of my life at that time, I would have been very happy.

However, higher powers had other, things on their mind for me in my life. But growing up as a kid, I was always fascinated with radio broadcasting, but I never knew how I was going to get into it. But I ended up in radio broadcasting. I ended up as a trainer while I was in the military.

Quote #3

Knowing the audience and being able to speak to that audience and making your content relevant to your audience is number one. Number two is to incorporate stories. Many times people will be just giving data, all this data that they’re just vomiting to their, to their audience. Tell us some stories.

Give us some. Because we, as an audience, we wanna, we want to get those pictures with words in our head. We want to be emotionally connected to that content. So, know your audience, tell stories, and number three that gets missed all the time is to have a conclusion. People will get to the end of their presentation and say, Alright, that’s it, I’m outta here.

398. Selling Without “Being A Salesman”, Bethany George, The Follow up Boss, teaches us how!

Bethany is a determined and resilient coach that teaches us what being the “Follow Up Boss” is all about. Having 5 children does not stop her from accomplishing her mission in life, “To Serve”

Quote #1

I’ve been an entrepreneur since I was a kid, and I’ve been selling things since I’ve been a kid. You know, starting out with selling home baked cookies or Girl Scout cookies or, you know, I have all kinds of things that I did. And as a kid, it’s way easier. But as I grew up into an adult and got into adult business, it was harder, you know, it wasn’t as cute. I wasn’t selling something quite as appetizing as cookies. What I really learned very early on is that one, I cared very much for the people that I was connecting with. I wanted that to be a relationship that was mutually beneficial. It wasn’t just about me pitching something to them for my own gain.

Quote #2

I’m really good at asking lots of questions because I really want to know all about the person I’m meeting, and what I really found was when I focus on the other person, when I, looked at what their goals, dreams, hopes, passions are, I could figure out ways to support them and that creates, A social capital of sorts between us that allows me then later on when I do need something, because you know, at times I need stuff too.

Quote #3

Well, the thing that I often say to them is, do you feel like your sales process is either not in alignment with your values? And, or often times it’s not getting the results you want, that’s the practical side of it. What I’m able to do though, is I come with an outside set of eyes, you know, business, the business owner and their team are entrenched in the day to day stuff of their business.

396. Carly Thornock, Designer, Creator, Visionary For Your Home, “Nobody Does It Better”

Carly Thornock:

Half family coach and half interior designer, I’m here for those intentional mamas who want to create meaningful and beautiful homes.  I promise inspiring, cozy vignettes and overwhelm obliteration. I host the Becoming Home Podcast, with new episodes dropping each Thursday. Tune in to learn how to think differently about your space and create your dream house (which includes great relationships– or it wouldn’t be your dream!).

Quote #1

“So we live in deep Delta. Where we’re off grid, everything is produced by our community, or that’s the goal at least. It’s a self sufficient, goal oriented community. Right now we have to go to the grocery store every 10 days, make the trek out, back to town. But, it’s self sufficient, we’re living off the land, we’re building these beautiful homes that are…built by us, which feels really fun and cool.  All different kinds of home construction that are super tight as far as energy efficiency goes and relatively inexpensive because we’re building with our actual hands with the actual earth. Anyway, it’s just so much fun. We love it a lot.”

Quote #2

“Yeah, we do have a generator. Our solar banks last for four or five days of complete cloud. So that’s nice. So we don’t usually have to use our generator. We did start turning on our generator this winter when we had like three weeks of really cloudy. snowy weather, but we don’t run it often. So it’s really, it’s really awesome. It’s fun.”

Quote #3

“I love that you call it service. That’s how it feels in my soul. Thanks for seeing me. Thanks for seeing the artist in me. That’s how it feels. I started out thinking I was going to get into architecture and interior design, something about space and something about visual, physical interaction with it. It’s the way that my brain is wired. I’m not really sure, but I love it. I love all aspects of it. And actually I found myself in a marriage and family degree program at college because I got a full ride scholarship to this amazing university that didn’t have an interior design or architecture program. So I went with my gut. We went to the university, found myself studying the family. And I realized that there’s not a lot of research about how the family uses their space. There’s a lot of research about how schools use space, how prisons use space, how hospitals use space. But we don’t really talk about how houses or our homes, right, where we grow and develop and have our most sacred connection, and how our house can facilitate that.”

395. Leadership Coach, Working with CEOs to drive growth and scale through no BS leadership principles.

I had a really great time interviewing Chad in SLC, he opened the door to his methods and his skill in bringing out the best in his clients and business owners.

Dive in deep to this interview and find out how its really done!

About Chad:

I am a coach and cornerman to business owners and founders. I thrive in conversation with the restless and relentless. Being a seasoned founder and entrepreneur myself in the media and ad world, I am intimately connected to the unique challenges and hurdles of those pursuing something bigger than themselves in business and relationships.

There is reward in discomfort, and I am a living invitation into the discomfort that produces change, growth, and vitality.

I live at the foot of the Wasatch range in Utah with my sweetheart of 18 years and my 3 kids. We spend our time camping, hiking, kayaking, mt. biking, and skiing. Pretty much anything that can be done in the wild.

Quote #1

“Why you’re not getting to where you’re getting? It’s such a good question. The first thing we need to find out is how they’re leading themselves. How do they relate to themselves? Are they telling themselves the truth? And more so than telling themselves the truth, are they willing to see and hear feedback?”

Quote #2

“Because without feedback nothing can change. Nothing new can be created without feedback. And you know what’s crazy is that most of these companies, founders have been so good at listening to the feedback in the marketplace for their product or service, but it doesn’t always translate to being with human beings in a meaningful way.”

Quote #3

“I get along with everybody I can talk with anybody. And once I was able to get off of that, all that story that I’ve made up and that fear of like, oh, what if I am judgmental? Once I got off of that, I could see where in my life judgments had kept me from connecting with other people. Yeah. And that’s actually the tool I used to keep safe, quote unquote, safe.

If you sense that there’s more, there is”

Quote #1

“I was actually commissioned by Reid Hoffman and Constantin Gurley to write LinkedIn’s first book.

So we were the publishers of LinkedIn’s first book. So I’m familiar with it, with what it’s doing, where it’s going, the acquisition, all that, and For a long time I’ve been thinking about writing a LinkedIn newsletter, and I just executed the launch very recently.”

Quote #2

“Topic. Super cool. It’s called Staying Relevant. My primary focus is on credibility. And so, you know, it, I don’t use the word credibility in there, but it’s credibly staying relevant. So what do you have to do today in, in the pivot point we are in, in the world, and I was under the impression, uh, or I set the goals for myself and, uh, and that.

I’d be happy if I got a hundred subscribers. Right? And so, you know,  I was gonna do it Wednesday morning and I said, oh no, let’s wait. And I did it Thursday morning and, and about an hour into it, I had 200 subscribers and I’m like, oh, maybe I should change my expectations. So we ended up getting, uh, over a thousand on day one.

A week later we’re close to 2000, and I just. Shared my next article. And what’s nice, James, what’s nice about this is my big focus in life is on credibility and for us as humans, to live life more credible and as corporations to instill an idea of credibility and culture of it inside the company.”

Quote #3

“Before Mark Andreessen put Mosaic on top of the internet and all of a sudden we started seeing it and, and when 50 million users in the US first started using the internet, oh my god, it’s real. So what I’m gonna say is chat. GPT is the mosaic of ai, right? Chat, GPT allowed us to see what AI can do. It’s possible that chat, GPT will have the same fate as Mosaic, right?

Companies still out there made good deals, but it’s not the big brand. Open AI may produce other things that, produce value. The point is, though, for us who are listening to this right now, tomorrow’s gonna be different than today. And how can you stay relevant? And,  that’s basically the, the topic  I’m personally exploring as we all should,  for the clients I work with.”

Quote #1

First of all, what if it all goes right, what do we do at the end of that? Isn’t it fantastic? The title alone snagged me the minute I saw it, and I hadn’t even heard the melody or the chorus yet, so I knew that was the song  Was that in Nashville, Nashville, Tennessee?

Yes, it’s Sound Emporium Studio. I was so honored. It was written by amazing writers in Nashville. I was pitched a lot of music When we went into the song searching project a thousand songs, my a and r manager went through to bring down to a couple hundred that went to my producer and myself to weed through pitch sessions virtually.

Quote #2

We definitely have a different flow. I born and raised up in the LA area. I know what you’re talking about. We still are up there to visit all the time. Family all lives up in the LA area, and then we come back to San Diego and it’s okay. I can breathe. Yeah, you pay to live here, but boy, I can breathe. Yeah.
