James’ guest on this episode of the dHarmic Evolution podcast is a fellow New Jerseyan and one of the few finger-style guitar players in the musical world. Donrique was first introduced to the indy/emo music world when one of his friends in 8th grade asked him to design a t-shirt for his band. He began to hang around with the band and was asked to design shirts for other bands around town, which is when he realized that he really liked that style of music. With his dad’s old acoustic guitar, Donrique started learning how to play bar chords, and when he discovered YouTube, he realized that he loved finger-style.

After a few years of playing finger-style and writing some of his own songs, he played for the owner of CandyRat Records, the home base of most of the finger-style players in the country. The owner recommended that he try to create something unique, which led Donrique down the path of integrating hip-hop and rap into his music and eventually into the singer-songwriter world. Now that he has found his sweet spot, he is committed to being a musician for life, constantly honing his craft and teaching others to do the same.
When it comes to recording, Donrique has found that he prefers to record in stereo, using matched pair microphones to capture sound from different angles. He has been heavily influenced by people like Jethro Tull, John Mayer, Johnny Cash, and Michael Buble, who all sing in a lower register as he does. Donrique is in the musical world for the long haul, building his brand and figuring out what works in the studio more than doing live performances, but that may change. Coming up soon, he will be launching online songwriting and recording courses for interested musicians, which he hopes will inspire and instruct aspiring artists.

Hoppin’ Trains With MoeDeLL - dHarmic Evolution Podcast

MoeDeLL joins James for this episode of the dHarmic Evolution podcast to discuss his passion for music and his new album “There It Is”. Growing up in Portsmouth, Virginia, Moe lived with his mom and his grandparents and he remembers there always being music playing in the house: The Eagles, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Fleetwood Mac, and Waylon Jennings to name a few. When he was 9 years old, he started taking private guitar lessons, and the rest is history. While his grandmother is the inspiration for a lot of his songs, he finds that he also writes frequently about his grandfather, though they didn’t always get along.

For the past 16 years, he has been a full-time Americana musician, currently averaging about 250 shows per year in Minnesota, the Dakotas, Virginia, and the Carolinas. Some gigs are solo, such as house concerts or sets at assisted living facilities, whereas corporate concerts or weddings might be with his full band. Until a few years ago, Moe was a rock’n’roll artist, but he had an epiphany while playing around with the sound of his song “Devil’s Lake” that gradually caused him to change his style to Americana. He felt that Americana allowed him to tell more of a story than rock’n’roll.
Moe’s must-have writing materials are coffee, a pencil, and paper, and he finds that he does his best creating in the morning or while waiting for a show to start. He loves to just fiddle around with new sounds, a practice that began in his childhood when he would mute the television and play his guitar along with what he saw on the screen. His dream job would be to write film scores, but until John Williams calls it quits, Moe will stick to his favorite gigs at assisted living facilities, Cowboy Jacks, and Beaner’s. He just joined the Midwest Country Music Association and he looks forward to potentially collaborating with some of his fellow members in the future.

Quotes:

“Even if it was just my mom listening, I would still get a joy out of writing music.”

“I’m infatuated with writing and lyrics and words.”

“I didn’t feel like my old lyrics really told a story.”

“In the morning, you may feel cloudy because you just woke up, but your mind is technically at its most fresh because you haven’t had the things of the day stifle you.”

“As a musician, you know your place.”

“Time has a way of drawing us closer.”

DE225 Jordan White, taking the high road from NJ to Philadelphia

On this episode of the dHarmic Evolution podcast, we have a returning guest! Jordan White joined us on DE49, and he is back to talk about his new album “High Road” and give us an inside look at his writing process. At the age of 12, Jordan’s family moved from New Jersey to Pennsylvania, which turned out to be a very rough transition for him. Though he didn’t realize it at the time, he began struggling with depression when he was about 15 and getting into music really gave him an escape from his difficult emotions. Having gone through these struggles, he is that much more grateful that he is able to make living writing music now.

Jordan got his Associate’s, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees, and he really connected with psychology. In fact, he found that he began to write better the more he understood about his own mind. Growing up, he was heavily influenced by the music of The Clash, Nirvana, Al Green, and other 70’s singer-songwriters, and he has recently gotten into Bruce Springsteen’s deep tracks. Jordan and James talk about their different writing methods, including where inspiration comes from, what time of day, and how structured or unstructured they prefer the environment. Jordan finds that he is most inspired when he travels to new places, perhaps because he is seeing the world in a new way and writing provides an outlet for processing.
When it comes to gigs, Jordan aims to play 3 shows per week, and he has found that he prefers to play at ticketed shows because the audience is more engaged with the artist. This engagement contributes to the mutual sharing of energy between the artist and the audience, feeding off each other to achieve the purest artistic experience. Jordan’s advice to anyone out there considering pursuing music is to not give up and to not settle. Be true to yourself and chase your sound.

DE224 Dr Christopher Stepien Healer, and friend to all who are suffering

Dr Christopher Stepien Healer, and friend to all who are suffering - dHarmic Evolution Podcast

Quotes from D. Chris

“I’ve Suffered, when you really sincerely struggle with something in life that takes an emotional toll, whether that’s sadness, or anger, or jealousy, or depression, or suicidal ideation, what choice do you have when you rise above it, but to be able to observe where other people are struggling in similar ways? And they want to help them along their path.”

“It’s easy for us in society with all of this technology and social media, and big ass shit going on to be really fascinated and carried away with what human beings can develop, and going into outer space and artificial Intelligence we are creating, but I look at all of it and say, there Is something to nature, there is something to the way that the trees ruffle in the wind, there is something to the way that hawks soar in the sky there is something to the changes of the season’s that speaks to me in a much the deeper way that all this technology.”

“Being natural, being barefoot, there’s a deeper thread of healing that is available to us whether we’re struggling or suffering in some way, whether that is physical suffering, emotional suffering, spiritual suffering, and I found for the most part, natures healing seems to offer greater fruits than the fruits of technology, so that’s where barefoot rehab came from.”

“We live in a society that is all about doing, achieving, making money, reaching for goals, it’s very masculine, and to me art is more of a feminine, beauty expression type of thing and while our society does enjoy music, and art, and pictures, and books, its not what our schools are training us to do.”

Barefoot Rehab

With our magic crystal ball, we can see why you feel the way you do. You haven’t found relief from your chiropractor, physical therapist, orthopedic doctor, massage therapist or any other provider. Your friends and family want you to try this or that. You don’t want another opinion. You want to be fixed! At Barefoot Rehab, we fix you by giving you the facts of your pain. Fully. Completely. We don’t use technology, machines, or gimmicks (notice the simple pencil ruler in the picture above). If you want a quick fix in a magic pill, we can’t help you. Temporary relief is a dime a dozen. If you want permanent relief, you’re in the right place. We get results that last. Isn’t it time to get the truth instead of another opinion?

Let’s be honest. You don’t trust anyone in healthcare. You’ve failed enough times that you’ve lost almost all hope. We get it. In our practice, we don’t fix everyone. 100% success with our patients is not possible. However, if we aren’t giving you relief, there’s a reason for it. Our goal is to communicate where you are on the pain path in real-time. Instead of doing 3 months of care for 24 visits spending thousands of dollars, imagine knowing in 3 visits that you need an MRI. Or that you have a diet issue. You regain trust and hope when someone tells you the truth. Mother Nature doesn’t lie. Neither do the doctors at Barefoot Rehab.

The Secret Problem You Didn’t Know You Have

If your previous doctors had correctly identified the problem, you wouldn’t be reading this. You’d be pain-free, doing what you love. You probably agree with the following statement, “There’s something they missed.”  It’s the most common problem, causing lots of pain, that no one’s talking about, and is very easily fixable.  You have never heard of it before.  It causes you to be tight (like in the ankle above) and in stubborn pain that just won’t go away.  At Barefoot Rehab, we specialize in fixing this secret problem for people who have been to multiple healthcare professionals without success.
